Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our safari guide will meet and welcome you to Uganda. After a short briefing about your safari, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe for check-in. Overnight stay in Kampala/Entebbe.
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic 6 to 7-hour drive via the Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal Road to Kibale Forest National Park, renowned as the "Primate Capital of Africa." As you travel through lush countryside, you'll be treated to spectacular landscapes and charming villages. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at your lodge before heading to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. This community-run eco-tourism project is home to rich birdlife, butterflies, and primates like red colobus and black-and-white colobus monkeys. After your walk, return to the lodge to relax in the serene surroundings, preparing for your chimpanzee trek the following day. Overnight stay in Kibale Forest National Park.
Prepare for an exhilarating day of chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, known for having one of the highest concentrations of primates in the world, including the largest group of habituated chimpanzees. After an early breakfast, head to Kanyanchu Tourism Center for a briefing before venturing into the lush rainforest. As you trek through the dense foliage, keep an eye out for chimpanzees, monkeys, and olive baboons, as they swing through the trees, vocalize, and forage. The trek can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours, depending on where your assigned chimp group is located. Once you find them, you will spend an hour observing their daily behaviors. After your chimpanzee encounter, return to your lodge to relax. Overnight stay in Kibale Forest National Park.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic 6 to 7-hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. As you travel, pass through Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you might spot a variety of wildlife, and enjoy views of the picturesque rolling hills of southwestern Uganda. Upon arrival in Bwindi, check in to your lodge nestled in the heart of the dense rainforest.
After breakfast at 7:30 am, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, where you'll learn about the gorilla trekking guidelines and be assigned to a gorilla family. In a group of eight, begin your trek through the dense rainforest to find your gorilla family. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to over 21 habituated gorilla groups, is divided into four sectors: Rushaga, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Buhoma, making it the largest concentration of gorillas in East Africa. The trek will take between 1 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, enjoy a magical hour observing the gentle giants in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi, known for its beautiful islands and serene views. Check in at your lodge for an overnight stay by the tranquil lake.
Spend a relaxing day exploring the beauty of Lake Bunyonyi. Engage in exhilarating activities such as a canoe ride to visit the lake’s 29 islands, swimming, birdwatching, or hiking around the terraced hills. You may also interact with the local communities to learn about their culture and way of life. Alternatively, simply relax at your lodge and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. After breakfast, embark on the 8 to 9-hour journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Along the way, stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for lunch, photos, souvenirs, and brief demonstrations at the equator line. Continue your journey and upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for the night or directly to Entebbe Airport for your departure flight. This marks the end of your 7-day Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari.
