Trip Itinerary

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet and greet with our safari guide who will transfer you to your hotel for the night. Take this time to relax and prepare for the exciting Ugandan adventure ahead. Overnight stay in Entebbe.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park, famous for its abundant wildlife and chimpanzee population. Enjoy the picturesque countryside views as you pass through rolling hills and vibrant villages on the Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal Road. Arriving at the park in time for lunch at your lodge, you’ll have the afternoon free to relax or opt for a guided nature walk in the nearby Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, known for its diverse birdlife, primates, and local communities. Overnight in Kibale Forest National Park.

Travel time: About 6 to 7 Hours.

After an early breakfast, embark on an exhilarating chimpanzee trek in Kibale Forest, starting with a briefing at Kanyanchu headquarters. Accompanied by expert guides, explore a habituated chimpanzee group and observe their behaviors in the wild for an hour. You may also spot other primates such as red-tailed monkeys. Afterward, return to your lodge for lunch and then drive to Kasese, enjoying the scenic views of crater lakes and the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive in the evening, check in to your lodge, and enjoy dinner in preparation for your Mount Rwenzori hiking adventure.

Travel time: 2 to 3 hours

Start your adventure with an early transfer from your hotel to the Rwenzori Mountains offices at Nyakalengija for a briefing before beginning your hike. The 10-kilometer journey takes you through cultivated lands and lush forests, culminating in a 5-hour trek to Nyabitaba Hut. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the hut, preparing for the next day's adventure.

After breakfast, embark on a challenging 7-hour trek to John Matte Hut, passing through dense forests, crossing the Kurt Schefer Bridge over the Bujuku River, and stopping for lunch at Nyamileju Hut. Continue through the heather forest along the Bujuku River, eventually arriving at John Matte Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3 of your Mount Rwenzori hike begins with a trek down to cross the Bujuku River, entering the scenic Bigo Swamp, home to the stunning giant lobelias. Continue through the swamp to Lake Bujuku, where you will enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Stanley. The day ends at Bujuku Hut, where you will have dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast and packing a lunch, embark on a 5 to 6-hour trek through groundsel vegetation along a 4-kilometer path, ascending to 4,372 meters. The trail takes you through the Upper Bigo Bog and the steep western slopes of Lake Bujuku. Reach the Scott-Elliot Pass, then continue to Elena Hut, situated on the rocky slopes of Mount Stanley. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay at Elena Hut.

Wake up at 2 am for breakfast before starting your challenging ascent to Margherita Peak, the highest point of the Rwenzori Mountains. The hike begins at 3 am, passing through Mount Stanley’s plateau. Equipped with mountain climbing gear like ropes and crampons, you'll navigate glaciers and rocky terrain, guided by your hiking expert. After several hours, reach the Margherita Glacier, the most difficult yet rewarding section of the trek. Enjoy breathtaking views and take photos before descending to Elena Hut for a brief rest. Continue to Kitandara Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, begin your descent from Kitandara Hut, passing the base of Mount Baker and crossing the Freshfield Pass. Enjoy panoramic views of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Mount Stanley. Continue downhill, reaching the Bujangolo rock shelter before arriving at Guy Yeoman Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, begin your descent from Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Hut, then continue to Nyakalengija. The trek takes you past Lake Mahoma and through scenic heather and moss zones. Upon reaching Nyakalengija, transfer back to Kasese for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorillas. This 4 to 5-hour drive offers scenic views of terraced hills, rural Ugandan life, and the Virunga Volcanoes. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax in preparation for the next day's gorilla trekking adventure. Overnight stay in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

After breakfast at 7:30 am, transfer to the park headquarters for a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience, starting with a briefing. With the help of expert trackers and guides, you will spend about 1 to 6 hours navigating the dense forest to find a habituated gorilla family. Once you locate them, spend an hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, noting their social interactions and behaviors. This encounter will be the highlight of your Uganda safari, leaving you with unforgettable memories. Overnight stay in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

After breakfast, depart Bwindi and head to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest savannah park. The park is known for its diverse wildlife, including the largest concentration of zebras, impalas, and elands. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Mburo, where you can spot hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Overnight stay in Lake Mburo National Park.

Travel time: About 5 Hours.

Start your day with a guided walking safari, offering a unique opportunity to explore the park on foot and spot wildlife up close. This intimate experience allows you to connect with nature and appreciate the smaller details of the ecosystem while enjoying spectacular game viewing, including giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and elands, among others. After the 3 to 4-hour safari, return to your lodge and relax. After an early lunch, check out of your lodge and transfer back to Entebbe with a stopover at the Equator for sightseeing. Proceed with your journey to Entebbe, where your incredible 14-day Uganda Gorilla Trekking and Mount Rwenzori hiking safari adventure concludes. Depending on your flight schedule, you may be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your departure.
